What is cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry is a branch of dental care that focuses on improving the appearance of the teeth, gums and smile. Whether you’re looking to fix your smile or address more serious dental concerns, our team at West Perth Cosmetic Dental can help.

We offer dental consultations, so you can learn more about what cosmetic options are available to you. We want you to feel confident in your smile, and our team will work with you to find the best treatment plan for your individual needs.

Why choose cosmetic dentistry?

  • Enjoy a natural-looking smile
  • Boost confidence and self-esteem
  • Pain-free and hassle-free experience
  • Affordable treatment options

There are many reasons why patients may choose to seek cosmetic dental treatments. Cosmetic dentistry helps to correct functional problems with the teeth or gums or promote confidence and self-esteem. Whatever your reason for considering cosmetic dentistry, our team can help you achieve your goals.

How do cosmetic dentistry procedures work?

The procedures vary depending on what you are wanting to get done, and the severity of your case. The consultation and examination is always the first appointment, where your goals and expectations are discussed. Next, we will work out the best treatment plan for you. We ensure our treatments are minimally invasive while still achieving excellent results! We endeavour to make dentistry as relaxing and pain-free as possible.

What are the benefits of cosmetic dentistry?

The most common benefits that come from getting cosmetic dental treatments are improvements in appearance and functionality. In some cases, cosmetic procedures can also improve oral health by addressing underlying issues like tooth decay or gum disease. When done properly, cosmetic dentistry can be a life-changing investment that you’ll enjoy for many years to come.

What are the risks of getting cosmetic dentistry?

As with any other health procedure, it is beneficial to be aware of any potential risks, even when they are extremely rare. The risks vary depending on the dental treatment and your individual case, however, they could include:

    • Allergic reactions to materials used in the procedure
    • Bleeding or swelling of the gums
    • Infection at the treatment site
    • Nerve damage (rare)
    • Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ)

It is important to see a trusted professional when undergoing any major dental procedures, so the risks can be controlled and limited.

    What happens during the consultation?

Check-ups, X-rays, photos, scans and planning

The consultation is the first step in your cosmetic dentistry journey. During this appointment, we will assess your oral health and discuss your desired results. We will also take X-rays, photos, and scans of your teeth to help us develop a treatment plan that is tailored to your needs. Once we have all the necessary information, we will be able to provide you with a detailed quote for the recommended treatments.

Wax up and try in → trial smile

The next step is the wax up and try in, which is also known as the trial smile. This appointment allows you to see what your new smile will look like before we begin any treatment. We will create a model of your teeth using dental wax, which can be used to make temporary veneers or tooth-coloured fillings. This will give you an idea of the shape, size, and colour of your new teeth. You can be certain that you will love the final result!

Once you’re happy with the trial smile, we will begin preparing your teeth for the cosmetic procedure. This might involve removing a small amount of tooth enamel, if making room for a new filling or veneer. We will also take impressions of your teeth, which will be used to create custom-made dental appliances.

    Fitting day

On the day of installation, we will bond the new filling or veneer to your tooth using a special adhesive. Once in place, we will check to make sure that the fit is comfortable and that you’re happy with the results. We may need to adjust the colour of the dental appliance to match your natural teeth, in order to achieve a perfect, natural look.
