Invisalign consultation
The first step is to book an Invisalign consultation appointment. The main purpose of this is for the Dentist to assess your face, teeth and bite to determine if Invisalign is the best treatment option for you. Photographs, X-rays, and a 3D scan of the teeth are required to make a comprehensive assessment. This information is then used by the Dentist to make a customized treatment plan specific to your needs.
Invisalign simulator
Following on from the initial appointment an Invisalign simulator allows the Dentist to show patients how their teeth are expected to look at the completion of their treatment. This same technology can also show the movement of your teeth over time and you yourself can see how your teeth are repositioned and straightened. This is an important appointment being it’s the final step to ensure that any changes are made prior to manufacturing the aligners.
Invisalign fitting
The next stage is an Invisalign fitting appointment as Invisalign are clear, custom fit aligners that are specifically manufactured to fit your unique set of teeth. The Dentist will perform bonding and polishing prior to fitting your first set of aligners. The number of aligners and length of treatment time depends on the number of teeth and movement required to achieve the planned position of the teeth. Invisalign aligners are generally worn for 1-2 weeks each before changing to the next set in the series and ideally worn for 20-22 hours per day.
Invisalign follow up
An Invisalign follow up appointment is then made with the dentist to review and monitor your teeth movement to ensure the aligners are fitting properly. The purpose of this is to ensure the treatment is progressing well, as expected and to make any necessary adjustments to ensure optimal results. The Dentist will advise patients of their follow up schedule and provide instructions on how to care for their teeth and aligners during the treatment time. The number of follow up reviews required can vary from patient to patient.
The final appointment is always the most exciting for both the dental team and the patient. At the end of the Invisalign treatment the patient’s teeth will have been repositioned into the desired position with noticeable effect. The Dentist will evaluate the final result to ensure the patient’s teeth and bite are in proper alignment prior to making retainers to maintain the teeth permanently. When Miss L finished her treatment, she only required some polishing to the edges of her teeth and a professional teeth whitening session.
